THIS SCENE.
I CAME.
We filmed ourselves doing Menkirikaeshi and Kakarigeiko at tonight’s Kendo practice, for educational purposes (we have to find ways of seeing what we do wrong because nobody will be able to tell us since we’re a sensei-less dōjō).
So I uploaded my part.
Kirikaeshi was supposed to be not rushed and with very precise moves.
A great photographer has the balls to aim his camera at someone (on the street, on a train, …) and get their consent without a word.
Man, I’m so far from being great.

Analog, my love.
I am a lover of the usual and the irrelevant.
I collect the inconsequential and cherish the unimportant.
Many meetings
X100 review part I don’t know…
Hunting bats are hunting in the shadows :D
The many skies of a single day
Doing a bit of reading under the timid sun…

LOTR with the D3 bookmark.
Fitting combination don’t you think?

Street photography has changed. People have changed. The relation of people nowadays to their image, their digital image, their privacy makes the work of the street photographer extremely difficult.
The golden era of HCB and such photographers is now gone and photographers must be very cautious when they take pictures of people on the street. While it’s not illegal, people react with a lot more energy because people are suspicious, because people are easily afraid, people want to be left alone.
When I took this picture, the thought that the little girl’s parents might attack me went through my mind. I had to find a lot of courage to take the shot. It is not perfect, but her staring was so intense. I’m glad I did it.
It’s a public space. Street photography is an art form. This is a form of journalism.
All of the above facts are protecting me and should give me the strength to shoot more pictures like this one. Easier said than done. The X100 proves invaluable as it is small and completely silent. I would never have dared taking this picture with a DSLR.
